7 Deadly Sins

So, I'm sticking with the "what I did last weekend" theme. Last Sunday, I went to see the 7 Deadly Sins burlesque revue at the Prohibition Room. Aside from being delighted by the talented and sassy dancers, I was also delighted to discover a restaurant that served tasty food until 1:00am. If you would like to see these ladies dance, their next two shows are at Underground Horror Fest in Tulsa on July 10 at the Marquee, and July 11 at The Prohibition Room at 9pm. If you want to visit the Prohibition Room just to grab a bite, it is in the gold dome building on 23rd and Classen. SoonerCon

What did you guys do this Saturday? Last Saturday, I went to SoonerCon, OKC's yearly science-fiction/fantasy convention. I never miss it. This is a photo of some of the contestants in the costume masquerade. Those Borg costumes are very detailed and impressive in person - the Borg show up every year and I always look forward to seeing them. Can you identify who everyone is dressed as?

SoundBites in the Park

I don't think I can say enough how I love working downtown. Every Friday in May and June, there are free lunchtime concerts downtown in Kerr Park. This photo is from last Friday when I went to listen to Cori and Chelsey Emmett. Hooray for the Downtown Oklahoma City Inc and Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation for collaborating to do this for us!

Will Rogers Botanical Gardens and Arboretum

Will Rogers Botanical Gardens and Arboretum (locally known as Will Rogers Park) is on NW 23rd and Meridian. The employees at the park grow plants for parks and other city property all over town, and the facility is also host to some local garden clubs. Most notably, it has a duck pond, an extensive rose garden, large iris garden, and a good sized arboretum. The roses and irises are both in bloom right now, so the park was packed with photographers when we took the dogs there for a walk. Photographers flock here during good weather because they aren't charged a usage fee for taking photos. The family above is taking portraits on a little patio between the rose garden and duck pond. I hope they turned out great!

Bodypaint at Carnality Ball

I was at Carnality Ball last weekend as a performer, but I did not take this photo. This photo is by talented guest photographer Albizu Vega. I loved it, and he was kind enough to allow me to share it with you. The body paint is by Bryan Crump and modeled by Ty Gay. Carnality Ball is an annual event organized by ceramic corset artist Nicole Moan. It includes loads of adult art of all varieties ranging from classy to raunchy, visual and performance, spread across two floors and six hours.

Devon Construction + Folks

This is also a picture of the construction site. The construction is in a deep pit on the other side of that concrete barrier. I really like this picture because it's a good shot of downtown scenery, and then you have jogging girls... and construction guys watching jogging girls... (isn't that the way it always goes?).

Ok, so really, across the street here is the Myriad Gardens, so aside from the joggers you have me and some other guy taking photos, and a family and a couple sitting on benches, eating sandwiches, staring at the construction guys... so really it's a staredown between the nosy garden loiterers and the construction guys. (Heck, maybe they WERE just watching the ladies jog...)

Kabaret

 

I took this shot at Maker's Cigar and Piano Lounge last weekend. Aside from being a cozy, atmospheric bar with walls adorned by jazz giants like Ella Fitzgerald and Bennie Goodman, they have live music all the time. And once a month, they have a European-flavored, bawdy cabaret show starring the dancers of Kabaret Falschtanz with scattered sideshow acts. I won't lie. These ladies are my friends, but that doesn't make their art any less unique. Center stage is MC Moose Ondaluce, directing the show.
